A Great Day For All!
Hartney Wintney CC provided another fantastic day for the community on August 9th when the 11th annual match with the Hampshire County Cricket Board team was played on the green, this year on behalf of the Hampshire Community Trust
The weather, which took an unusual dip the day before, delivered a perfect day, and with over 250 people sitting down to the lunch and more than 1,500 around the ground the atmosphere was at times electric.
Hartley Wintney did well to restrict Hampshire Royals to 246, bowling them all out one ball short of the 20 overs. None of the mighty Royals reached 50 although David Griffiths, Liam Dawson, Sean Terry and Jimmy Adams all got close, and the houses and gazebos were liberally peppered with sixes.
In their 20 overs, Hartley Wintney racked up 242 for 6, getting very close to the Royals’ total. The undoubted star turn was Lee Weiss with a truly swashbuckling 101, although everyone else who was called on chipped in.
Well done to everyone who has helped and worked hard, and those that played hard. And even to those who just …relaxed hard.
